Second Shooter...

Every once in a while I get the pleasure of being a 'second shooter'. Normally I am the main photographer with all the responsibility of getting all the shots. A 'second shooter' gets to look at things from different angles and different viewpoints. Plus a 'second shooter' gets to concentrate more on the art and less on the requirements. Not to say that main photographers aren't artistic, it is just that they can't take as much time and thought about the creative side because the main photographer has a timeline to stick to.

I was 'second shooter' to Mary Sandy this past Friday at Seville. I love shooting with Mary and just love shooting! Here are some of my artistic and photojournalistic selections from the wedding. Congratulations to Britany and Murphy!

Felt like playing with the rings...
This dress had 'to die for' details!

You can tell that the groom and his dad are close.
Bears Fanatic-- the grooms cake!

These three cuties had no clue that there was a ceremony going on!

This groom knew how to work the shot!
The water was so beautiful at dusk!

Photo checklists

Photo Checklists. They are a 100% necessity at a wedding. My checklists are a list I write out that has all of the different group variations that we want to make sure not to miss. This could be as simple as the bride and groom with his extended family to the bride's three generation shot (bride, mom, grandma). If there isn't a list, there is a chance of missing the shot. It is that simple.

Also the list will have a list of special poses that the bride and groom want to try to do. We don't use the list for all of the bride and groom formals, but more for those few 'have to get' shots. Most of my shots of the bride and groom are impromptu. I have the bride and groom fill out my checklist paperwork, and from there I write up a list in order of what we will do them on the wedding day. Organization is great!

The Three P's of Wedding Photographer Shopping

There are 3 things to consider when looking to hire a photographer for your wedding. I call it the 3 P's. First there is portfolio. You have to love their work! Second is their personality. You must feel comfortable with the photographer! And last but not least is their pricing. It must fit within your budget. But make sure you budget enough for photography-- it is what you will have left after the wedding has come and gone. If you really like a photographer and their work, yet they are a bit out of your price range, consider lowering something else like flowers or limo or bar budget. Think of your photo album and how important that is to you. Also, many photographers offer custom packages (as I do); there might be a way to lower the price by taking out an item or two from the package. If you find someone you like, communicate with them-- they might help meet you half way!

Sarah

Meet Sarah. She is a senior that I recently photographed.
We went to Sahuaro Ranch Park, and then to her home.
She likes ballet and her bird, Daisy. We didn't do any ballet
shots because she has tons of them already. But we did show
Sarah's personality through all of the hundreds of shots taken.
These are some of my favorites...

This next one has to be my favorite of the shoot...she loved
Little House on the Prarie growing up, and this looks like
a shot from those books. She looks like Laura Ingalls from
the t.v. show, doesn't she?

Lillian

I took Lillian's senior portraits a few days before Christmas. With the holidays and workload, I am just now getting to blogging them. Lillian wanted to go to Encanto Park, which was a great choice, except the amusement park area that we wanted to use was closed. But we made do with all the park's scenery and historical buildings. It was a group of us, Lillian had her best friend and boyfriend there, and I had an assistant there helping with the lighting. We ran out of sunlight towards the end due to a late start and overcast sky. We had a good time, and here are our results!

Katie and Kaya

This past Sunday, my daughter and her friend wanted me
to take them on a modeling type of shoot for fun. We were
just out to be creative and have a good time. These
